Monday November 6, 2000

"Dynein/Dynactin-mediated nuclear migration in Aspergillus"
Dr. N. Ron Morris Distinguished Professor of Pharmacology University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
The focus of Dr. Morris's laboratory is on understanding nuclear migration, a process fundamental to the growth and development of eukaryotic organisms. They have collected a large number of nud (nuclear distribution) mutants in which nuclear migration is inhibited and are using them to identify and study the genes and proteins involved. One of these genes turns out to be important in human disease.

November 9, 2000

Our presenter will be Dr. Sheng-Cheng Wu. His talk will focus on Magnaporthe grisea, the causal agent of Rice Blast and he will give us an overview of his work. The presentation is entitled
"In Search of Anti-fungal Targets from the Rice Blast Fungus,".
Dr. Wu is an Assistant Research Scientist at the Complex Carbohydrate Center and his primary research focus is on xylanases and pathogenicity.

November 16, 2000

Gail Celio, a Ph.D. student in Plant Pathology, will be giving a presentation entitled "Fungi in Popular Culture."

Future Events

This will be the last meeting for the Fall Semester but here are some important up-and-coming events:

  • Nov.23 Thanksgiving
  • Nov. 30 Plant Center Seminar John Walker (University of Missouri)
  • Dec. 7 Plant Center Seminar Robert Goldberg (University of California, LA)
  • Jan.4 or 11, 2001 (TBA)Spring Organizational Meeting-Schedule will be made
